Description

Crispy, tangy sauerkraut balls filled with savory sausage, cheese, and sauerkraut, perfect for a cozy lunch or snack.


Ingredients

Scale

1 cup well-drained sauerkraut

1/2 lb ground sausage

1/2 cup chopped onion

4 oz cream cheese, softened

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

Flour for dredging

2 beaten eggs

Breadcrumbs for coating

Oil for frying


Instructions

1. Rinse and drain sauerkraut, pat dry.

2. Cook sausage in a skillet until browned, add onions, and cook until soft.

3. In a bowl, mix sauerkraut, sausage mixture, cream cheese, and mustard. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Roll mixture into balls, chill for 30 minutes.

5. Prepare flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs for breading.

6. Dredge each ball in flour, dip in egg, coat with breadcrumbs.

7. Fry at 350°F until golden brown, or bake at 400°F for 15-20 minutes.

8. Serve warm with mustard or your favorite dip.

Notes

Chill balls before breading to help them hold shape.

Air-fry for a lighter version.
