Description

These chilled sugar cookies are simple, sweet, and bake up soft and tender. Perfect for a cozy afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until everything is mixed well.
  4. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients until you’ve got a nice dough.
  6. Roll the dough into little balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake them for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are just lightly golden.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.
  9. Once they’re completely cooled, sprinkle on that powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Serve at room temperature. Pairs well with cold milk or a hot cup of tea.
