Easy Milk Bread Loaf

Description

A soft, fluffy milk bread that’s perfect for sandwiches, toasting, and more!


Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g bread flour (3¾ cup)
  • 40 g sugar (3 tbsp)
  • tsps instant yeast
  • 225 g cold water (a little bit less than 1 cup)
  • 115 g cold milk (½ cup)
  • 9 g sea salt (1½ tsp)
  • 25 g unsalted butter (1¾ tbsp)
  • Butter for coating the pan and brushing the bread
  • Flour for coating the pan

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, instant yeast, and sea salt. Whisk to blend.
  2. In another bowl, mix cold water and cold milk. Pour into dry ingredients and add unsalted butter.
  3. Mix with a spatula or hands until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Gently punch down the dough, turn it out, and shape it into a loaf.
  7. Place in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the top with melted butter and bake for 30-35 minutes or until it sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a hint of sweetness, add a tablespoon of honey to the milk. Alternatively, experiment with herbs, chocolate chips, or dried fruits.
