Description

A crispy and tangy gluten-free take on the classic orange chicken, perfect for dinner with family or friends.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3/4 cup gluten-free flour blend (or almond flour/rice flour as substitutes)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 cups)
  • 3/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 tablespoons gluten-free soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch or tapioca starch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Beat the eggs in one bowl and place the gluten-free flour in another.
  3. Dip each chicken piece into the eggs, then coat with the gluten-free flour.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat to 350-375°F.
  5. Fry the chicken pieces in batches for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  6. In a small saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, gluten-free soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and ginger, and warm it over medium heat while stirring.
  7. Combine cornstarch with water to create a slurry and gradually add to the sauce until it thickens.
  8. Pour the sauce over the fried chicken and toss gently to coat. Serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
