Description

A comforting low carb casserole that captures the flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak without the bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio preferred)
  • 1 large onion (diced)
  • 2 large bell peppers (diced, green, red, or mixed)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 8 oz provolone cheese (sliced)
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onions and bell peppers, cooking for 5–6 minutes until softened.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper, cooking for 7–8 minutes until browned with no pink.
  5. Drain excess fat if needed. Stir in Worcestershire sauce to coat the meat.
  6. Reduce heat to low and add the softened cream cheese, stirring until melted and creamy.
  7. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  8. Tear provolone into pieces and layer it over the beef, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.
  9. Bake for 22–25 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  10. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use 80/20 ground beef for optimal flavor and juiciness. Ensure cream cheese is softened for smooth melting. Adjust seasoning and cheese based on preference.
