Description

Soft and sweet red velvet cookies that are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Once chilled, scoop the dough and roll into balls, then roll in powdered sugar.
  8. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  9. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use room-temperature butter for creamiest dough. Don’t overmix once you add the flour. Chill the dough so cookies hold shape.
