Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Optional: cinnamon and sugar (for sweet version)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add warm water until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and soft.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls, about one inch in size.
  5. Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add in the baking soda.
  6. Boil each dough ball for about 30 seconds, then place them on a baking sheet.
  7. Beat the egg and brush it over each pretzel bite. Sprinkle sea salt on top.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These pretzel bites are best served warm and pair well with mustard or cheese sauce. For a sweet version, toss in cinnamon and sugar after baking.
