Description

Delightful fluffy sourdough donuts, perfect for breakfast or a snack, dusted with powdered sugar.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together your sourdough starter, sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mix, stirring just until combined.
  4. Chill the dough in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat up some vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Fry the donuts in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Remove them from the oil and let them drain on paper towels, dusting with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make sure your sourdough starter is active for the best results. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
