- 1/2 cup (120g) active or discard sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (Nutty Delight)
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark, milk, or white)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, cayenne, or espresso powder (Spiced Brownies)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Melt the butter and mix it with the sugar in a medium bowl. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
- Fold in the sourdough starter and mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and fold until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes.
- Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick; if it comes out with a few moist crumbs, the brownies are ready.
- Allow to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or drizzle with chocolate sauce for extra indulgence.
