Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
  • 2 ounces unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk together 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Melt the butter and milk together in a small saucepan over low heat.
  3. Pour the warm liquid into the dry mix and add the eggs, stirring until combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining flour and mix for about two minutes until soft dough forms.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for the filling while dough rises.
  7. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, then spread with melted butter and sprinkle the sugar mixture on top.
  8. Cut the dough into strips, stack them, and layer in a greased loaf pan.
  9. Let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Cool for about 20-30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Delicious with cream cheese or icing. Store in an airtight container.
