Description
A cozy and comforting lasagna recipe using San Giorgio noodles, perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 to 15 San Giorgio lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 to 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar marinara sauce (24 to 32 ounces)
- 1 can crushed tomatoes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 3 to 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
- Fresh basil or parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the meat and build the sauce. In a large skillet, cook your ground beef or sausage with the diced onion. Once it is browned, add the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds. Pour in marinara, add Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Boil the noodles if needed. Bring a big pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the San Giorgio noodles until just tender, about 1 to 2 minutes less than the box says. Drain, rinse with cool water, and lay them flat.
- Mix the ricotta layer. In a bowl, stir together ricotta, egg, Parmesan, a pinch of salt and pepper, and chopped parsley or basil.
- Layer it up. Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a 9×13 pan, spread a thin layer of sauce, add noodles, spread the ricotta mixture, sprinkle mozzarella, and add more sauce. Repeat until you have 3 to 4 layers, finishing with sauce and a generous topping of mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Bake, rest, then serve. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Let the lasagna rest before slicing for neat servings. This recipe is forgiving, so feel free to adjust ingredients to your preference.
