Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • Additional sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter, milk, melted butter, and egg in a mixing bowl and whisk well.
  2. Mix the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon in another bowl.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients gradually until a dough forms. Use a spatula if needed.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then shape it into a ball.
  5. Let it rise in a greased bowl, covered, for about 60-120 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Roll out the dough gently and cut into strips.
  8. Twist each strip and place it on a baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  10. Cool slightly and roll in additional sugar before serving.

Notes

Ensure your sourdough starter is active for the best rise. Optionally add vanilla extract for extra flavor.
