A soft and sturdy whole wheat sourdough sandwich bread that’s simple to make and perfect for lunches.
Ingredients

- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1 cup warm water or milk
- 2 tablespoons honey or sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast (optional)
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Shape the dough into a rectangle and fold the edges toward the center.
- Roll the dough into a tight log and seal the seams.
- Place the shaped loaf seam side down in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover the pan and let it rise until it crowns the rim, about 60-90 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped, about 30-35 minutes.
- Cool the bread on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For best results, let the bread cool for at least one hour before slicing to avoid gummy texture. This bread can also be frozen for later use.
