- 1 cup brown sugar (divided)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon (divided)
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pan.
- Combine melted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and 2 teaspoons cinnamon in a small bowl, then mix in chopped pecans.
- Beat together softened butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, granulated sugar, and eggs in another bowl until creamy.
- Stir in vanilla extract, sour cream, sourdough starter, and buttermilk until well combined.
- Whisk together fine sea salt, baking powder, and 2 cups flour in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan, then sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar filling.
- Top with the remaining batter and sprinkle with the remaining filling and crumble topping.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let it cool before serving.
Notes
Serve with fresh fruit or a drizzle of honey for an extra touch. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
